Prof Kasolo Josephine
Professor Josephine N. Kasolo is a Ugandan medical physiologist and biomedical engineer. She is the Head of the Department of Medical Physiology at Makerere University College of Health Sciences School of Biomedical Science. She is a gifted teacher, researcher, and mentor who has made significant contributions to the fields of medical physiology and biomedical engineering.
Professor Kasolo graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Makerere University Medical School in 1981. She completed her residency at Mulago National Referral Hospital in 1982 and joined the Department of Medical Physiology as a Teaching Assistant at Makerere Medical School. In 1986, she earned a Master of Science in Medical Physiology, becoming the first woman medical physiologist in Uganda. In 2015, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine, becoming the first female physiologist in Uganda to earn a PhD. In 2019, she completed her postdoctoral research, establishing that M. Oleifera leaves aqueous extract has a similar pattern to Glibenclamide tablets in causing hypoglycemia to alloxan monohydrate induced diabetic rats.
Professor Kasolo is also interested in biomedical engineering. She mentors and supervises students enrolled in the Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering program. Her collaborations with biomedical students have led to the development of several medical equipment prototypes, which have contributed to the development of biomedical science knowledge, especially in medical physiology. Professor Kasolo is passionate about initiating and developing biomedical engineering equipment for the prevention, detection, and treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases in low-income countries.
Professor Kasolo is a role model for women in science and engineering. She is a highly accomplished and respected scientist who has made significant contributions to the fields of medical physiology and biomedical engineering. She is an inspiration to her students and colleagues.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the College of Engineering Design and Technology (CEDAT) from Makerere University of Kampala. With her passion for business as well, she further pursued a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) at ESAMI (East and Southern Africa Management Institute), in addition to other software certifications from CADD Centre that she has acquired along her life path. Her passion coupled with over a decades experience in all things construction and design innovations invigorate her and thus at JOLIKA, she is part of the product design team…………because why not?

depression, alcohol, substances of abuse, addiction and neurotoxicity.
Godfrey has research interest instress and depression, alcohol and substances of abuse and addiction, medicines use in clinical practice.
Godfrey has more than 50 publications in peer reviewed International Journals and 4 Book chapters.
He is currently supervising many Masters and PhD students on the use, safety and efficacy of medicinal
plants.
